2022 Kutna Hora

After 5 pm was a participatory public art project in the Czech town of Kutna Hora, which responded to the decline of public life that is experienced locally. From the 1st until the 10th of September 2022, it temporarily installed a performative space for community activities into the city center, in which five inhabitants of Kutna Hora shared what they do in their free time. After 5 pm concerned itself with the question: When we bring private life into the public realm, does public life emerge? Occupying a deserted storefronts and billboard spaces, it intervened in the realm of the commercial with communality. Following two and a half years in which domestic life prevailed, After 5 pm aimed to temporarily activate the city center of Kutna Hora in celebration of hobbies and pastime activities as a space for shared experience.

After 5 pm was initiated by the production platform Rekultur in cooperation with the Kutna Hora Performing Arts Festival, and curated by the Curatorial Collective for Public Art. The project was funded by the German-Czech Future Fund, State Culture Fund, Central Bohemian Region and Kreativ-Transfer, and co-produced by Theater X10 in Prague.
